Havre Visit

Right after Christmas, we traveled five hours north (from Missoula) to my mom's home town of Havre to visit with family who came near and far for the holidays. Aunt Jill made everyone knit hats for Christmas, and we all had to try them on for a Kodak moment. We always enjoy spending time with the "fam" - there is never a dull moment at the farm house!

Merry Christmas!

Christmas Eve brought lots of gifts as well as a great meal from Chef Mark (prime rib - yum!). Nate's parents (Bruce and Jill) and his sister Bekah joined us for two days. It was so fun to have both families around. I had to include Haven's model pose. She is showing off one of her favorite gifts - a purse full of jewels. She is a true girlie-girl.

Only in Cle Elum

Only in Cle Elum will you see a wheel barrow collection in some one's front yard. We just had to capture this on film. =0)

A trip to Leavenworth

A few days before Christmas, we traveled to Leavnworth, Wa. It was the perfect place to see the magic of Christmas. The Bavarian town was full of lights, fresh falling snow, and holiday cheer! Nate found some good wine and we all found the hat shop! We really enjoyed the sights and sounds. Haven was a bit exhausted and managed to take a siesta underneath the bench of the restaurant where we feasted on hot soup and sandwiches. It was the perfect place to welcome Christmas!

A visit with St. Nick

We did take Haven to see Mr. and Mrs. Clause at Suncadia resort in Roslyn. She was very hesitant at first (thankfully, no tears or melt-down), so Nate and I were there to introduce her to the very special couple. A delicious brunch was the perfect way to end the Santa experience.

Haven's 2nd Birthday!

Haven's 2nd birthday was December 18th, and my mom pulled together quite the party! She made her famous chicken enchiladas and invited over 20 neighbors and friends to the house to help us celebrate the big day. Even though we didn't know many of the folks that arrived, it was a very fun evening for both Haven and I. She LOVED tearing through the wrapping, and would often discard the gift, or whatever was under the colorful paper. I had to teach her to see what was inside the box or actually LOOK at the gift before throwing it on the ground and asking for "more present."

She knows she has turned two, and will tell you her age if you asked. Let's see.... what else is she accomplishing now that she is a true toddler! She has surprised us by learning her numbers quickly and can count to 10. She knows her colors and often tells us the color of marker or crayon she has chosen before coloring. Her vocabulary is typical for a two year old and she tries to say everything she can wrap her mouth around. She chats non-stop all day long, and is pack full of energy... I can hardly keep up with her. Yes, she throws tantrums, tells us "NO!" and can manipulate like the pros... but we are very fortunate to have a little sweetie with a big heart, who is always ready to "help" and clean up, gives ample hugs and kisses, and actually loves cooked peas. Now, we will be going through it all again as we are expecting another little Speer on Julyl 7th.

Winter in Cle Elum

Haven and I stayed at my parents' new home in Cle Elum after the wedding since we were planning on spending Christmas there. Plus, my brother and sister-in-law, Philip and Kara, flew in for the wedding and were also staying till Christmas. We haven't seen them in a year, so it was an extra special treat to spend two weeks with them. Cle Elum became a winter wonderland, and Haven found herself helping my dad with the shoveling. She actually loves to "help" and found other opportunities to assist wherever she was needed... like tasting sugar cookie dough! We enjoyed a very relaxing time at the Flatau resort (the new house is beautiful - a true first class lodge). Nate came later with his parents, so it was a very special Christmas to have both families together.

Cousin Carrie's Wedding!

On Decemeber 14th, my cousin, Carrie Flatau, married the love of her life - Josh Jameson. They were married in Kirkland, Washington at the Northwest University chapel. Haven was one of the three flower girls, and had a wonderful time in her "princess dress" spending time with all the family that made it out for the special day. GG (Grandma Gayle) styled Haven's hair with the same pink sponge curlers that once curled my hair as a young girl. I wasn't sure if she was going to make it down the center isle to the front of the chapel, but she did - with the help of cousin McKynnlie - who held her hand and led her down the entire way! I did sweep her up before she managed to find the stage (there was NO way she would remain with the rest of the wedding party). It didn't take long before Haven was quickly removed from the ceremony when she continued to have very loud conversations with everyone around her. She still doesn't really comprehend the concept, of "quiet". We need to work on that one....
